KENTUCKY STATE DAR CONFERENCE BOOK SIGNING

FESS PARKER 1924-2010

Our thought and prayers go out to the family of Fess Parker, who passed away this week.

In 1964, Parker began filming his network television series, Kentuckian Daniel Boone. During six years as one of the highest rated shows of its time, Parker not only starred in the series but also co-produced it.

In 1987, Parker purchased a 714-acre ranch thirty-five miles north of Santa Barbara, in the Santa Ynez Valley, where he promptly set about planning and establishing Fess Parker's Winery & Vineyard.

Fess sent us a recipe for the cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities,” because he portrayed Daniel Boone. The recipe was for a Quiche made by his neighbor Otto Eitel. He said they often served it with wine tasting at the vineyard.

This weekend we will do a presentation and book signing at the Kentucky State DAR Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Lexington March 26-27 from 8:00-5:30. The book signing is to be a fundraiser for Duncan Tavern Historic Site located in Paris, KY, which is the DAR’s State Headquarters.

We will also do a book signing on the Thursday prior to the Conference at Varden’s CafĂ© in Paris, KY from 11:00- 6:00. Steve Varden is going to plan a special menu with items from the cookbook to be served the day of the book signing. The proceeds from the book signing are to aid the conservation of a Ranney portrait of the "Boone Party" coming over the Cumberland Gap. The painting is located at the historic site. We are delighted to have this opportunity to help such a deserving organization.”

Maybe I can talk Steve into helping sign the cookbooks as he contributed a recipe for the cookbook!

FUNDRAISER FOR GUIDE DOGS OF AMERICA

FUNDRAISER FOR GUIDE DOGS OF AMERICA

Come join us this weekend March 20, 2010
Kentucky Oaks Mall
9am-5pm

We have seen big boy’s toys shows, boat shows, sports car shows! It’s about time someone had a show all about women. This is it! And it is coming back to Paducah. All in one location and under one roof, you’ll find everything you can imagine and things you never have.
We will have demonstrations, food samples, a chocolate fountain, cooking demonstrations, door prizes, hands on demonstrations and nearly 60 exhibitors set up just waiting to offer something special to each of the ladies participating that day.

NV Florist has graciously invited me to do a book signing at their booth with proceeds from my cookbook going to Guide Dogs of America.
The florist started including the cookbook "FAVORITE RECIPES OF KENTUCKY CELEBRITIES" in gift baskets just before Christmas. They make a great gift for someone in the hospital (The notes under recipes are fun reading.)
NV Florist is also recommending the cookbook as part of a gift basket for Mother’s Day.

Here is your chance to do something nice for your mother and for a wonderful organization.

DID YOU KNOW IT COST $35,OOO TO TRAIN A GUIDE DOG AND HIS OWNER!

BUTLER COUNTY'S 200TH ANNIVERSARY

BUTLER COUNTY'S 200TH ANNIVERSARY

The Butler Family is known for generations of soldiers who won notoriety for their exploits in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War and the Civil War. Percival Butler, son of an Irish immigrant gunsmith and one of five brothers known as the "Fighting Butlers" of the Continental Army, was aide to General Marquee De Lafayette when the British surrendered at Yorktown. Washington himself bore testimony when he gave the historic toast: “To the Butlers and their five sons;” and Lafayette superbly supplemented this with: “When I wanted a thing done well, I had a Butler do it…”

Butler County in Kentucky, which was named for Gen. William O. Butler, is hosting a year long celebration of its 200th Anniversary. Part of that celebration is a book signing at the Morgantown Library on Friday, March 12, 8:30 TO 3:30 & Saturday, March 13, 9:00 to 4:00.

This weekend! There will be 12 authors!

I will be there to sign my cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities”, with proceeds going to the Anniversary Committee.

JUST GOT BACK FROM KENTUCKY CRAFTED MARKET. I had so much fun this weekend and met so many wonderful people. John Hassman with Taste of Kentucky is now carrying the cookbook as is Jim Beam Outpost, Friends of LBL, and Appalachian Artisan Center. Steve Vest with Kentucky Monthly is going to do a story on the cookbook and the Lt. Governor's wife bought a copy. She said she was going to talk to some people about using it to promote Kentucky.

Isn't this wild! I worked as a Quality Control Lab Analyst at USEC in Paducah, took early retirement, and compiled the cookbook for fun. Some people quilt, play golf, or fish. I chose to do this. :-)

I THINK GOD IS CONSTANTLY CREATING NEW OPPORTUNITES FOR THE COOKBOOK.
