MEET WATERCOLOR ARTIST PAT BANKS

Dance of Life
By Pat Banks
One day and Counting to Kentucky Crafted: The Market in Lexington.
I promised to do blogs this week in Market participants, who contributed to the cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities.”
While at the Market, meet watercolor artist Pat Banks from Richmond. She will be at Booth 130. Pat balances her duties as a professional artist and a children’s book illustrator. I have a copy of her book “A is for Appalachia.” Banks has had the opportunity to be a visiting artist in other parts of the United States as wellas
Japan, Ecuador and France. Her work is absolutely beautiful.

I had the pleasure of doing a book signing with Pat as a fundraiser for Eastern Kentucky University’s Kentucky River Keepers. Pat graciously shared her recipe for Curried Seafood Salad for the Kentucky cookbook.

Don’t forget to stop by my Booth 408 at the Market, March 1-4, at the Lexington Convention Center, with the cookbooks “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities” and the recently released “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities.” We are offering special SHOW PROMOTIONS.

Ruth Hunt Candy
3 Days and Counting until Kentucky Crafted: The Market. The next few days I will do blogs on a couple of contributors to the Kentucky Cookbook Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities, who also will be participating in The Market.

When you go to The Market in Lexington this week, be sure to check out Ruth Hunt Candies, which is located in Booth 417 in the Specialty Foods Section. They contributed a recipe to the cookbook for “Blue Monday Cream Pie”, which is made from their Blue Monday Candy Bars.

About Ruth Hunt Candy: It all began in the kitchen of her Mt. Sterling, Kentucky home, where Ruth Tharpe Hunt served homemade sweets to her bridge club. In 1921 she decided to start a small candy business. Today, still located in Mt. Sterling, Ruth Hunt Candies remains a Kentucky landmark.

Ruth Hunt continually adds products to her list. Today there are approximately 70 kinds of candy. They are proud to be celebrating their 91st year in business and are so appreciative of all their customers for the support over the years!

Bob Gates, Folk Life Director for the Kentucky Arts Council and The Kentucky Historical Society has invited Pamela Whinnery, local author and owner of Celebrity Cookbook Publications to do a presentation and cooking demonstration on the Folk Life Stage at the 2012 Kentucky Crafted: The Market. Last year she prepared a “Southern Spice Tea” from her cookbook “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities;” The recipe was contributed by actress Reese Witherspoon, who is from Nashville.

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, The Market will return to Lexington in 2012. The award-winning arts marketplace, which had its debut in 1981 at the Kentucky Horse Park, will come home after a long run in Louisville at the Kentucky Exposition Center. The award-winning arts marketplace, the annual wholesale/retail show of art, craft, books, music and artisan food products will be held March 1 – 4, 2012, at the Lexington Convention Center, 430 W. Vine St., Lexington, Ky.

The Market features more than 200 juried artists, authors, and musicians offering shoppers jewelry, wearable art, home decor, furniture, paintings, prints, photographs and artisan foods along with Kentucky-related books, CDs and DVDs.
