I wanted to remind you that I will be in Booth 714 at the Kentucky Crafted Market, March 17-20, at the Kentucky Fair Grounds, Louisville, KY, with the cookbooks “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities” and the recently released “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities.” We have some special SHOW PROMOTIONS. The cookbook is the perfect item for gift shops, Kentucky Souvenirs, and Mother’s Day Presents. It was part of the Nov. Kentucky Dept. of Libraries State Book Fair and was 8th in overall sales from a selection of 523 books.

About the Promotions: We are offering two SHOW PROMOTIONS. For orders placed during the show of 10 or more cookbooks, we will provide FREE SHIPPING. For orders of 20 or more, we will give an additional 10% DISCOUNT on the total order to both wholesale business and individual retail orders.

No I did not drop off the face of the earth. I just returned from a stay in San Antonio, TX.

While there, I learned The Daughters of The Republic of Texas is hosting the 175th Anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo Events this year. What does this have to do with the Tennessee cookbook “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities?”

I have 6 recipes with ties to Texas and those following my blog might find the Texas Ties interesting. The Friends of David Crockett State Park, Lawrenceburg, TN sent a historical recipe for David Crockett. Fess Parker sent a recipe as he played David Crockett in both movies and television. The curator for The Hermitage sent a recipe for Pres. Andrew Jackson, who was President at the time of the battle of the Alamo.

Megan Buro who is with the The Sam Houston Memorial Museum in Huntsville, Texas sent 3 recipes. One which was for Sam Houston, another which was used for the Sam Houston School House Historic Site. This is a log cabin school located in Maryville, TN and is the oldest school in Tennessee, built in 1794. Sam Houston taught there.

She also sent a recipe for John Ross, also known as Koo Wes Koo We. He was the Chief of the Cherokee Nation, when it was in TN, GA, and NC. He went to Texas with Sam Houston and fought with him at Horse Shoe Bend.

So, whether you are from Tennessee or Texas check this cookbook out. It has great recipes from amazing people, and is a celebration of our great heritage.

Emmy & Grammy nominated composer George S. Clinton from Chattanooga, TN has written the musical scores for over 80 feature films, television movies, and mini-series including Mortal Kombat, Austin Powers, Cheech & Chong, Big Momma’s House, & Santa Claus 2 & 3. Clinton said of the potato salad recipe he sent, “This is a family recipe made by my grandmother, aunt, & sister.”

The East Tennessee Historical Society is now selling my Tennessee cookbook “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities” in their Museum shop located at 601 S. Gay St. in Knoxville, TN.

About the cookbooks East Tennessee Ties: There are recipes from Stella and Dolly Parton, Sevierville, Jonesborough Storytelling Festival, Artist Vince Pitelka, Smithville, American Idol finalist Phil Stacey, Cleveland, Austin Powers Music Composer George S. Clinton, Chattanooga and you will have to go by the museum to see the other East Tennessee contributors.

Friend’s of Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park are contributors of a historical recipe for “The Forrest Family Molasses Pie” to the Tennessee Cookbook “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities.” They are also selling the cookbook as a fundraiser for the park.

Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park, Eva near Camden, TN is named for one of the greatest & best-known cavalry raiders of the Civil War. His operations were concentrated along the Tenn. River, where the park is located. It includes a River Folklife Museum located at the summit of Pilot Knob, highest point in West Tennessee, so named because it was used as a landmark by the early riverboat captains (pilots).

This year, 2011 is the beginning of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War. The approaching 150th Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War (2011-2015) offers the current generation of Americans a most important opportunity to know, discuss, and commemorate this country's greatest national crisis, while at the same time exploring its enduring relevance in the 21st century.

I will be doing various book signings for both cookbooks "Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities" and "Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities" throughout Kentucky and Tennessee in conjunction with the 3-year event. The Kentucky Cookbook has recipes for Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Battle of Perryville, Columbus Belmont State Park, and Camp Nelson. KNOXVILLE MUSEUM OF ART

This past year has been so much fun! I have met so many wonderful people, had opportunities to do book signings in really fun and sometimes once in a lifetime places (2010 World Equestrian Games.) I am sure God created all these events and opportunities for both the cookbooks and for me. For this, I am truly thankful!

The Kentucky Cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities” was released just 2 years ago and has been used by over 100 organizations as a fundraiser. The Tennessee Cookbook, “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities" was released by the publisher just 2 months ago and there are over 20 organizations already selling the cookbook as a fundraiser.

One of the organizations is the Knoxville Museum of Art, which was also a contributor. The Tennessee cookbook is being sold in their gift shop. They sent a recipe for Microwave Peanut Brittle.

The Knoxville Museum of Art, located on the site of the 1982 World’s Fair, includes five galleries, as well as a Sculpture Terrace, & 2 large outdoor garden areas. The Museum collection consists of work primarily from the 20th & 21st century. Kitsy Hartley, one of their longtime docents & volunteers makes the peanut brittle & brings to staff functions as well as volunteer activities.

This weekend, Saturday Dec. 18th is the traditional Dec. Basketball game between U.K. & UofL. It is also a tradition to have the annual University of Kentucky Alumni Christmas Dinner at Spindletop Hall on the following Sunday Dec. 19th for club members.

I have been invited to do a guest book signing FOR THE COOKBOOK "Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities" that day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with proceeds from cookbook sales going to The Ronald McDonald House in Lexington. The cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities" also has a recipe from Richie Farmer a former U.K. Basketball player and Spindletop Hall’s Executive Chef Ed Valente.

LOURDES HOSPITAL AUXILIARY FUNDRAISER

Academy Award winning screenwriter Tom Schulman has a recipe in the Tennessee Cookbook.

Tom Schulman, Nashville, attended Montgomery Bell Academy, & 1 of his teachers, Sam Pickering was the basis of Robin Williams's character in "Dead Poet's Society." Vice president of the Writers Guild of America, West, his other writing credits include Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Welcome to Mooseport, What About Bob?

I will be at Lourdes Hospital, Paducah, KY to do a booksigning for the Hospital Auxiliary Thursday, November 9, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Auxiliary gift shop. This will be the 1st book signing for the Tennessee cookbook at the hospital. They hosted a Kentucky cookbook signing last summer. If you did not get a copy of the Kentucky cookbook, they will also be available.

The auxiliary has over 100 volunteers who provide services to the community at Lourdes. A few of the many opportunities include the Gift Shop, Information Desk, visiting patients, fundraising, and assisting in clerical areas. The Lourdes Auxiliary is an organization of hospital volunteers.

They are also sponsoring a food drive for Paducah Cooperative Ministry on Thursday. If you would like to contribute, bring the food items by the gift shop.
