More on the 2010 Fantastic Fiber Exhibit!

The response to this year’s Fantastic Fibers Competition/Exhibition has been nothing short of…well, fantastic! Contemporary and innovative artworks created with fiber as the primary medium from three continents will be on display at the Yeiser Art Center during the month of April. Panoply of materials, techniques and processes take the form of two-dimensional wall hangings, three-dimensional object and sculpture, wearable art, and temporary installations. Techniques include embroidery, quilting, felting, tapestry, braiding, weaving, basketry, and a variety of mixed media, non-traditional processes. Materials range from traditional cotton, silk, and wool to a wide range of synthetic fibers and manmade materials.

Three jurors chose 56 works created by 45 fiber artists from
Lima, Peru; Durban, South Africa; and 25 states including Hawaii and the District of Columbia. Close to 600 entries were submitted by 137 fiber artists from Belgium, Canada, England, Germany, Peru, South Africa, and from 38 states.
