KNOXVILLE MUSEUM OF ART

This past year has been so much fun! I have met so many wonderful people, had opportunities to do book signings in really fun and sometimes once in a lifetime places (2010 World Equestrian Games.) I am sure God created all these events and opportunities for both the cookbooks and for me. For this, I am truly thankful!

The Kentucky Cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities” was released just 2 years ago and has been used by over 100 organizations as a fundraiser. The Tennessee Cookbook, “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities" was released by the publisher just 2 months ago and there are over 20 organizations already selling the cookbook as a fundraiser.

One of the organizations is the Knoxville Museum of Art, which was also a contributor. The Tennessee cookbook is being sold in their gift shop. They sent a recipe for Microwave Peanut Brittle.

The Knoxville Museum of Art, located on the site of the 1982 World’s Fair, includes five galleries, as well as a Sculpture Terrace, & 2 large outdoor garden areas. The Museum collection consists of work primarily from the 20th & 21st century. Kitsy Hartley, one of their longtime docents & volunteers makes the peanut brittle & brings to staff functions as well as volunteer activities.

Now to all the wonderful people who have contributed recipes, purchased a cookbook to help with numerous fundraisers, and those who just happen to stop by to read this blog, I hope you had a very blessed Christmas and wishing you a very Happy New Year. This weekend, Saturday Dec. 18th is the traditional Dec. Basketball game between U.K. & UofL. It is also a tradition to have the annual University of Kentucky Alumni Christmas Dinner at Spindletop Hall on the following Sunday Dec. 19th for club members.

I have been invited to do a guest book signing FOR THE COOKBOOK "Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities" that day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with proceeds from cookbook sales going to The Ronald McDonald House in Lexington. The cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities" also has a recipe from Richie Farmer a former U.K. Basketball player and Spindletop Hall’s Executive Chef Ed Valente.

LOURDES HOSPITAL AUXILIARY FUNDRAISER

Academy Award winning screenwriter Tom Schulman has a recipe in the Tennessee Cookbook.

Tom Schulman, Nashville, attended Montgomery Bell Academy, & 1 of his teachers, Sam Pickering was the basis of Robin Williams's character in "Dead Poet's Society." Vice president of the Writers Guild of America, West, his other writing credits include Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Welcome to Mooseport, What About Bob?

I will be at Lourdes Hospital, Paducah, KY to do a booksigning for the Hospital Auxiliary Thursday, November 9, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Auxiliary gift shop. This will be the 1st book signing for the Tennessee cookbook at the hospital. They hosted a Kentucky cookbook signing last summer. If you did not get a copy of the Kentucky cookbook, they will also be available.

The auxiliary has over 100 volunteers who provide services to the community at Lourdes. A few of the many opportunities include the Gift Shop, Information Desk, visiting patients, fundraising, and assisting in clerical areas. The Lourdes Auxiliary is an organization of hospital volunteers.

They are also sponsoring a food drive for Paducah Cooperative Ministry on Thursday. If you would like to contribute, bring the food items by the gift shop.

“Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities” will be one of the featured books at the Sixth Annual Hickman County Arts, Crafts and Book Fair.

I will be signing both the Kentucky and Tennessee Celebrity cookbooks. This event will take place at the Clinton Elementry School Gym on Saturday, December 4th from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Authors from around the region will be offering books for all age levels and interests.

Vendors of affordable Christmas gifts for young and old will be on hand with their wares. Organizers anticipate between 35 and 40 vendors.

There will be music at the Fair this year. Shoppers can enjoy a $5 lunch of soup, sandwich, dessert and drink while listening to local musicians perform. Santa will be on hand to hear Christmas wishes.


The Hickman County Arts, Crafts and Book Fair is sponsored by Friends of the Arts in Hickman County. Proceeds from the Fair go to the Hickman County Arts Council which supports arts programs throughout the year.

Arts Council Chair Mary Potter is looking forward to the Fair this year.
“It’s a great time to see old friends, get some unique Christmas gifts and support our local artists. I am especially excited to have music this year during the day. It will add to the total arts experience.”

H.O.R.S.E.S. Inc. is one of the organizations, which I work with to do fundraising with my cookbooks. They do Horse Therapy with children who have learning disabilities or need speech therapy. They are a wonderful organization made up of volunteers who donate their time and their horse’s time for this valuable work.

After a Saturday bazaar at Kentucky Oaks Plaza, H.O.R.S.E.S. Inc. Therapeutic Riding Center volunteers placed the organization’s large aluminum logo behind the building because it would not fit in the door.

OTHER NEWS: I had the opportunity to participate in the Kentucky State Library and Archives 2010 State book Fair this weekend. Nov. 13. IT WAS A SUCCESS! More than 3,200 patrons supported the fair, with sales of $125,000! The proceeds go to provide grants to state libraries and library scholarships.

I have exciting news! I have been selected for the second year to participate in the Kentucky State Book Fair. I will do a book signing of the just released “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities.”

My cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities” will also be available, if you did not get a signed copy last year. It was 8th in overall sales from a selection of 200 authors and 523 books at last year’s book fair.

About the book fair:

The Book Fair, November 13th, opens at 9:00 a.m. to the public and continues until 4:00 p.m. There will be over 200 authors from across Kentucky. The books with authors are in Rows based on subject. The cookbooks and books on bourbon or with ties to bourbon will be to the extreme right in ROW 10 and ROW 3. As of now, my cookbooks are in the back area in ROW 3, which is next to the children’s books. JUST GO RIGHT AND KEEP WALKING! YOU WILL FIND US! :-)

What does Elvis, Miley Cyrus, Trace Adkins, author Sam Pickering, and Pres Andrew Jackson have in common? They all have a favorite recipe in the Tennessee Cookbook:

“Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities."

The cookbook has over 300 recipes from local and national personalities, highly visible Tennessee businesses, artist, writers, athletes, sportsmen, actors, musicians, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, notable events and places. In addition, there are brief notes with each recipe on the contributor.

My goal is to use the cookbook as a fundraiser for non-profit and charitable organizations. Fifty percent of any copies sold will be given to charities or non-profit organizations that wish to use it as a fundraiser. The other fifty percent is to cover my cost. I feel God has blessed me and this is a way I can give back to the community.

In addition to being interesting to read and a charitable fundraiser, the cookbook is also a great way to publicize and promote Tennessee tourism, business, industry, historic sites, and most of all the wonderful people who were born, lived, or have ties to Tennessee.
