WHO:

Dr. Susan Wiltshire has graciously accepted an invitation by Christopher Burawa, executive director of the APSU Center of Excellence to co-sign my cookbook as a fundraiser for the Center. Dr. Wiltshire contributed a recipe that she makes and said was her daughter’s favorite.

Dr. Susan Ford Wiltshire is Professor of Classics Emeritus at Vanderbilt University and served as department Chair for 9 years. The Tennessee author is a graduate of Columbia University and written numerous books including “Public and Private in Vergil’s Aeneid”; “Greece, Rome, and the Bill of Rights”; “Seasons of Grief and Grace”; “Athena’s Disguises; and Windmills and Bridges”: “Poems Near and Far”.

She has served on the Board of the National Council on the Humanities, the advisory board of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

September 1st is the start of a full 2 months of book signings. Everywhere for Evansville, IN to Norris, TN

It is going to be great fun!

First Thursdays in Clarksville, TN will kick things off.

The signing will be at a specialty kitchen (cooking) store called Ingredients in downtown Clarksville. The address is:

The signing will begin at 5 PM and run to 8 PM. Christopher Burawa Director of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts at Austin Peay State University invited me to do the book signing as a fundraiser for their scholarship fund.

THE EXCITING PART ABOUT THIS IS: Dr. Susan Wiltshire a Tennessee author and Classics Chair for Vanderbilt University is co-signing the cookbooks. She is one of the individuals, who graciously contributed a recipe for the cookbook.

Stop by on the First Thursday Gallery Walk and pick up a copy of the cookbook. It will make a great Christmas present signed by two authors and it is never too early to start!

If you want to be elected in the Bluegrass State, there's only one place to be the first Saturday in August: Fancy Farm, Ky, where old-fashioned politics meets dyed-in-the-wool religion, and the differences are evened out by the glorious, gluttonous, gastronomic magic of charred pork and mutton at the annual Fancy Farm picnic-cum-political rally.

What do political leaders Sen. Mitch McConnell, Gov. Steve Beshears, Sec. of Agriculture Richie Farmer, and Vice-President Alben Barkley have in common? Three will be there this Saturday and one helped organize the political speaking years ago. They also sent a favorite recipe for the Kentucky Cookbook, “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities.” Alben Barkley’s Granddaughter sent the recipe for him.

The cookbook also has recipes from Miley Cyrus, Tom T. Hall, Lance Burton, Naomi Judd, and Kentucky Derby Museum and you can get a copy this weekend at the Fancy Farm Picnic.

Local author Pamela Whinnery will be at the picnic to do a book signing with proceeds going to St. Jerome Parrish. She will also have her recently released cookbook “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Cookbooks.”

Both cookbooks have over 300 recipes from local and national personalities, highly visible businesses, artist, writers, athletes, sportsmen, actors, musicians, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, notable events and places. In addition, there are brief notes with each recipe on the contributors, and calendar of events.

This should be fun!

Julian Carroll Convention Center 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Free event designed to promote women business owners and businesses that cater to women and children as well as provide health, nutrition, education and finance information to women. There will be vendors with jewelry and fashion accessories as well as local restaurants and therapist. There will be a fashion show, cooking demonstrations, a live Zumba class, door prizes, fashion displays, and refreshments. It's all free, educational and fun. Sponsored by Paducah Business and Professional Women.

I have bee invited to do a book signing of both my Kentucky Cookbook and the Tennessee Cookbook, with proceeds going to the Business and Professional Women’s Scholarship Fund.

CORVETTES CONQUER CANCER

30TH NATIONAL

CORVETTE HOMECOMING

July 16th will be the 30th Anniversary of the National Corvette Homecoming. It takes place at Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green, KY. Bowling Green is the home of the one and only Corvette assembly plant.

They are having an iconic display of Corvettes from each and every year produced at the Bowling Green plant. 1981-2011.

Joe Pruitt Director of the Homecoming just announced that leading off the 30-car display would be the very FIRST production Corvette off the line at Bowling Green. VIN #00001 will be unveiled at the Meet & Greet and will be on display to celebrate its very own 30th Birthday. But not to be left out, for this very rare occasion only, they will also have the LAST Corvette off the St Louis assembly line as well! Both of these cars have no miles and look like they've been in a time capsule for all these years.

Isn’t this amazing! And I get to be a part of it! Joe contributed a recipe to the cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities.” He has invited me to do a book signing for a special event they are having “Corvettes Conquer Cancer.”

AS always, I am donating 50% of the proceeds from the book signing to the fundraiser for the Bowling Green Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

I love what I get to do and participate in with my book signings.

THE COUNTDOWN IS ON!!!

If you love bluegrass music The International Bluegrass Museum is hosting ROMP, its Annual Bluegrass Festival. June 23 to 25 in Owensboro, KY. There are some amazing and unique bands including The Carolina Chocolate Drops, coming from the Piedmont Region of North Carolina. They play in the old traditions, but are extremely talented, modern musicians.

And The Professors of Bluegrass. The members of this band will tell you when they are not playing Bluegrass they moonlight as Professors of Yale University. With the exception of their bass player Peter Salovey, who is the Provost at Yale. The band has been together for 20 years and they are returning again to play at ROMP. Peter told me if I ever did a cookbook on Connecticut, he would send me a recipe.

Speaking of bands, which have played previously at this event, one of my favorites was the Steel String Session. This GREAT band played last year and their fiddle player Lisa Jacobi sent me a recipe for the band to be included in my most recent cookbook “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities.”

Steel String Session, Copperhill, is a dynamic group of acoustic multi-instrumentalists from Ocoee River region of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They play “Rockabilly-Jazz-Grass.” Lisa Jacobi said of her Bachelor Pasta recipe: “It is great when you work with a bunch of guys in a band or kayakers.” Her husband is Olympic Gold Medallist Joe Jacobi.

The Farewell Drifters Preforming at ROMP

The Farewell Drifters

I promised to do a blog on some of the performers at the Owensboro ROMP Festival, who also contributed a recipe to the cookbook “Country Goodness Recipes of Tennessee Celebrities.” The group I am blogging this week is The Farewell Drifters.

THEY ARE PERFORMING JUNE 23, THURSDAY NIGHT DIRECTLY AFTER STEVE MARTIN AND THE STEEP CANYON RANGERS.

The Farewell Drifters are a band based in Nashville, Tennessee. They began when Zach Bevill and Joshua Britt met in Nashville and played some music together. Britt coming from a family of former touring musicians played in high school garage bands with his brother Clayton in Franklin, Kentucky. Joshua brought brother Clayton along, then they added violinist Christian Sedelmyer and bassist Dean Marold after the move to Nashville.

They sent a recipe one of the band members mother prepares for them when they are in town.

Don’t forget to stop by and pick up a signed copy of the Tennessee cookbook. If you did not get a copy at last years ROMP, I will also have a few copies of the Kentucky cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities” available.
