KENTUCKY STATE DAR CONFERENCE BOOK SIGNING

FESS PARKER 1924-2010

Our thought and prayers go out to the family of Fess Parker, who passed away this week.

In 1964, Parker began filming his network television series, Kentuckian Daniel Boone. During six years as one of the highest rated shows of its time, Parker not only starred in the series but also co-produced it.

In 1987, Parker purchased a 714-acre ranch thirty-five miles north of Santa Barbara, in the Santa Ynez Valley, where he promptly set about planning and establishing Fess Parker's Winery & Vineyard.

Fess sent us a recipe for the cookbook “Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities,” because he portrayed Daniel Boone. The recipe was for a Quiche made by his neighbor Otto Eitel. He said they often served it with wine tasting at the vineyard.

This weekend we will do a presentation and book signing at the Kentucky State DAR Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Lexington March 26-27 from 8:00-5:30. The book signing is to be a fundraiser for Duncan Tavern Historic Site located in Paris, KY, which is the DAR’s State Headquarters.

We will also do a book signing on the Thursday prior to the Conference at Varden’s CafĂ© in Paris, KY from 11:00- 6:00. Steve Varden is going to plan a special menu with items from the cookbook to be served the day of the book signing. The proceeds from the book signing are to aid the conservation of a Ranney portrait of the "Boone Party" coming over the Cumberland Gap. The painting is located at the historic site. We are delighted to have this opportunity to help such a deserving organization.”

Maybe I can talk Steve into helping sign the cookbooks as he contributed a recipe for the cookbook!
