BOOK SIGNING TATER DAY

IT’S HERE!!!
THE 167TH ANNUAL BENTON, KY TATER DAY
MONDAY APRIL 5TH

This year I will be doing a BOOK SIGNING for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Team, at Stilley House Monday April 5 (TATER DAY) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, Mike Driver and his wife Ann have graciously accepted an invitation to help me sign the cookbooks.

Mike contributed a recipe in memory of his father Restaurateur Jim Driver. Ann and mike are owners of historic Aire Castle Inn B&B, 413 Salem Chapel Road North, Benton, KY, near beautiful Kentucky Lake. Ann sent me a recipe for the Lady Ann's Hashbrown Heaven she serves to her guest at the Bed & Breakfast.

MORE ABOUT TATER DAY: Tradition claims Tater Day was established in 1842, the year Marshall County was founded. At that time first Monday in April marked the beginning of county court. Local people took this day to come to Benton and transact their business. Many traded for their needs and one of the main items traded was sweet
potato slips, hence 'Tater Day.'

Old timers can still remember when mule buyers came from the South and nearby states to trade and buy livestock. A special section of the court square was set aside near 13th and Poplar for the trading ring for horses, mules, hogs, and sheep. This horse-swapping ring was usually the busiest part of Tater-Day but plenty of other entertainment could be foundaround the court square.

Today Tater Day also includes a parade, giant 'Flea Market' is the antique lovers' delight, Horse races, pony-pulling contests, and a Four-Wheel Drive Drag Race.

BE SURE AND STOP BY TO GET A COPY OF THE COOKBOOK AND HELP OUT THE STILLEY HOUSE RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM!!!
